Waiting for Godot

Waiting for Godot is one of the most influential plays of the twentieth century. The mix of poetry with high dramatic tension resulted in the play having a major impact on theatre. The play is a revised version of Samuel Beckett’s play and became hugely popular when it was first performed in the 1960s. However, the controversial nature of the play caused some criticism. The play, Waiting for Godot, is once again taking the stage of London’s West End at the Haymarket Theatre Royal. The play opens on Wednesday 6th May 2009 with previews on Thursday 30th April 2009.

Waiting for Godot is expected to run until Sunday 25th June 2009 so tickets will be hard to get as demand for the play is high. The 2009 revival of the classic Samuel Beckett play is directed by Sean Mathias. Sir Ian McKeller takes one of the leads as Estragon and Patrick Stewart takes the other as Vladimir. Sir Ian McKeller has appeared on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company in The Seagull and in King Lear as well as in film in Aladdin, An Enemy of the People, Peter Pan and the massive X-Men. While Stewart has seen success in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, X-Men and Star Trek.
