The Lion King
The Lion King has developed from the classic Disney film to a live musical performance. The story in the musical stays faithful to the plot of the film version. The story tells of a lion cub born into a royal family. Simba, the lion cub, is the son of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi, the rules of the Pride Rock. The birth of Simba is a celebration as they proudly show of their son who is the new heir to the throne. The kingdom celebrates with the King and Queen at the blessing of the cub. However, King Mufasa’s brother, Scar, takes an immediate dislike to Simba.
The jealous Scar resents King Mufasa for being king and the birth of his son brings an end to any hope of him taking the throne. Scar decides not to give up the hope and sets about to ruin the young Simba in hope of taking the throne from him. The musical has proved itself as successful as the movie. Performances in New York’s Broadway has been awarded with six Tony Awards and was nominated for a further five awards on top of this. The musical is currently showing on the West End at the Lyceum Theatre.
