Priscilla Queen of the Desert

The 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert staring Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Terence Stamp was made into a musical and first opened in Sydney, Australia in October 2006. The musical, and the film, tells the story of three drag queens. Two of these drag queens are gay men and the other is a transsexual woman.

The musical features two groups of Australian society that are often left on the outside; Aborigines and homosexuals. The involvement of these two groups within the production has resulted in it having a significant cultural impact. It has been particularly influential upon gay community of Australia and has been discussed as a new ‘camp classic’. The musical is fast becoming a modern classic. For this reason the show has progressed on to the West End.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert is set to open in the Palace Theatre on 23rd March 2009. It is anticipated to be as successful as it was in Australia and tickets will be highly sought after. The interest in the musical means that tickets are likely to sell for a premium and therefore pre-booking is advisable to obtain cheaper tickets to Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
