Joseph

The work and Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice can not be better represented by the musical Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music to the show while Time Rice wrote the lyrics; both of which are a sensation. The musical has been shown internationally since its debut in 1968 at the Colet Court School where it was originally written just as a short rock opera.

The current version of the musical has been running since 1972 where it debuted at the Edinburgh International Festival. The success of the show includes winning two Laurence Olivier Awards in 1991 for the performance of Joseph on the West End. Joseph is once again playing in the West End at the Adelphi Theatre and has been successfully running since 2007. The lead character is played by Lee Mead who won the BBC television show Any Dream Will Do. The show was a talent contest that strived to find the most suitable person to play Joseph.

While the show did indeed find an actor to pay Joseph it also successfully generated a new surge of interest in the musical thanks to the massive ratings that the Saturday night prime time show brought in. Tickets to Joseph are now going at a faster rate than ever making it hard to secure cheap tickets to see Joseph.
