Dirty Dancing
Aldwych Theatre in London’s West End has been the home to ‘Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage’ since its opening in the UK on 23rd October 2005. It broke all records as it became the highest pre-selling theatre show in the history of the West End. The show is based on the 1987 classic film Dirty Dancing.
The film provides the story line for the stage show. It tells the story of a seventeen year old girl from a strict and wealthy, middle class, Jewish family who are staying at a summer resort. The young girl is nicknamed Baby. Baby’s parents have high aspirations for their well behaved and sensible daughter and intend for her to attend college to study economics. However, when Baby meets the resort dance teacher, Johnny, things look set to change.
Baby is introduced to a whole new world as she confronts issues of abortion, class divides and dirty dancing! Johnny and Baby’s relationship centres around dance as they attempt to perform the performances finale including the near impossible lift. The scenes from the film transfer with great effect to the stage and this performance is made more incredible with the daring and high intensity dance scenes that were made for the stage.
Cheap Dirty Dancing tickets can be purchased if you book in advance so there is no excuse not to take in the show and have an night you will never forget.
