Billy Elliot

Billy Elliot the Musical genuinely does make the audience laugh and cry throughout the three hour performance. The heart warming story that sees Billy Elliot become a professional ballet dancer is set beautifully to music written by Sir Elton John. The musical, which opened in 2005, was based on the film and book written by Lee Hall, both of which achieved the same fame and success that the musical has subsequently experienced.

The emotional performance confronts the tough world of Northern English during the 1984-85 miner strikes that devastated thousands of families, and whole communities, that relied on mining for employment. The almost poverty stricken families are shown with harsh honesty. Billy Elliot the Musical also touches issues on society, homosexuality and displays the reality of a patriarchal family.

The introduction of a seemingly feminine hobby into the masculine family of the Elliot’s it both entertaining and deeply moving. The show is once again selling tickets for this West End sensation and audiences are impressed as ever by the performances. The show is enjoyable on all levels making it suitable for all the family and entertaining across all age, gender and social spectrums.
