Phantom of the Opera
The Phantom of the Opera is the most successful creation from the musical genius Andrew Lloyd Webber. The musical has grossed more thank any other on the West End and has gone to be the highest grossing entertainment event in history. The success of the musical led to a film version which was released in 2004 and was also written by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Thanks to the release of the film the musical once again attracted significant attention. The phantom of the opera has been performed over 9,000 times and performances have been seen everywhere from the West End to Germany, Australia, Brazil and New York. The production of Phantom of the Opera on Broadway earned the musical seven Tony Awards including the award for Best Musical, Best Sets, Best Director and Best Costumes. As well as receiving awards in America the musical has also been presented with two Laurence Olivier Awards which were awarded for the Best Musical and the Best Performance in a musical.
The musical is the second longest running in the West End as it has been successfully performed since 1986. It is still running in London and the performance at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Haymarket is continuing the legacy of Phantom of the Opera.
