Carousel
The tragic romance story of Billy Bigelow and Julie Jordan as told through the musical Carousel is once again on London’s West End stage from November 2008. London’s Savoy theatre is showing the musical set in New England’s industrial revolution of the 1870s. The production has been once again brought to stage thanks to Kim Poster of Stanhope productions Ltd and is directed by Lindsay Posner who’s previous work includes Fool for Love, The Birthday Party and The Hypochondriac. Together they have previously worked on a 2007 production of Fiddler on the Roof which was also shown at London’s Savoy Theatre.
The musical includes hit songs such as Carousel Waltz, June is Bustin’ Out and You’ll Never Walk Alone and with a cast including Lesley Garrett, Jeremiah James and Alexandra Silber the Rodgers and Hammerstein II’s classic musical is going to be performed successfully once again. The story documents the struggles of this young couple about to become a family who in their desperation turn to a life of crime. The action comes to a head when Billy can now longer cope with the desperation of their situation and commits suicide. He is then forced to face the havoc he has caused as he is refused entry to heaven until he has made amends.
