Wild Card Theatre

Theatre

‘Theatre’ or ‘the seeing place’ as its Ancient Greek namesake meant, refers to the performing art whereby people act in a certain way (usually on a stage) in front of other people. It is one of those art forms that encompass many others, in this case including dance, comedy, music, film, acting or showcasing any other talent.

Theatre has a long history and in all likelihood (and depending on your definition) it dates back to the beginning of mankind. We often hear of how ancient civilisations utilised theatre and how certain effects were achieved. Take one practice for example, whereby literal killing of actors would take place if the character they played met a foul end. Thankfully we’ve progressed since then so that we can simulate death without actually killing anyone.

With the use of modern day techniques we can suggest all kinds of sequences, particularly with the creative use of light and sound.

And of course let us not forget simpler pieces of theatre such as stand up comedy, where in most cases all that is needed is a simple background and a microphone.

It goes to show that in a theatre, anything is possible.
